Soldavi’s Seven Spring Cleaning Tips

Spring Cleaning is important, now more than ever. Deep cleaning now can help against the COVID-19 pandemic and allergies by cleaning up dust and germs around the home.

Usually, people keep pushing spring cleaning to a later date, but now that everyone is practicing social distancing, you have all the time in the world to clean ?.

1. Make a Schedule

Don’t start cleaning just yet. It’s important to inspect your home thoroughly. Check which spots are usually skipped during your general cleaning and make note of what rooms need the most work.

Grab a notepad, and take down what tasks need to be done per room.

2. Hygiene

Grab a pair of gloves before you begin to clean. Most likely you’re going to be working with chemicals that have the potential of damaging your skin and overall health.

Face masks or even a scarf can work wonders while cleaning. Not only will it limit the chemicals you are inhaling, but also prevent dust from entering your system and limit your allergic reactions.

3. Declutter

Decluttering is essential in all spring cleaning. Donate clothing you don’t need and clean out your junk drawers. Clean out your home office to create a more spacious and welcoming environment.

Decluttering not only creates more space but also betters your mental health. According to a survey conducted by HuffPost, home organization is a huge factor in our stress levels. A disorganized home creates a disorganized mind. Constantly worrying about laundry, washing dishes, misplaced items, and unclean surfaces can cause one to stress and not focus on work or life.

4. Always Work from Top to Bottom

How do you normally shower? You start by shampooing your hair and work your way down. That’s how cleaning should start. Start with the ceiling and fan, and work your way down. By doing this, you force the dust down and avoid having to re-clean lower surfaces. Work your way down to cabinets and finish off with vacuuming or mopping.

5. Don’t Forget Walls and Windows

Walls and Windows are often neglected during general cleaning. Even if walls seem to look clean, give it a couple passes with a wet towel and see how dust is picked up from the walls and the paint shines. Same with the window and blinds, wipe the blinds from top to bottom and then focus the frame. Lastly, finish off by wiping the glass with either Windex (or any alternative) or a steam cleaner with a squeegee.

6. Kitchen and Bathrooms

These are the areas most used in a home and thus require the most attention. Here is a quick checklist for what to do for both rooms.

Kitchen

  • Wipe down cabinets
  • Wipe down shelves and throw away old items
  • Clean out refrigerator
  • Use gentle cleaners with stainless steel appliances.

Bathroom

  • Change Shower Curtain
  • Scrub tub and showerhead
  • Go through drawers and throw out old/expired cosmetic items

7. Air Filters

With COVID-19 spreading through the air and it being allergy season,  it’s important to change your air filter. During the winter, Air ducts tend to buildup dust, and when the AC is turned out, that dust is passed throughout the home. If the air filter is old, odds are you are breathing all that dust. Replacing the filter is a fairly inexpensive task to ensure you are breathing fresh air.

If you’re further having respiratory problems or allergy starts flaring up, it might be best to invest in an air purifier.
